Leftist artist ISO conservative Christian to hear each other's stories w4w
This is, no doubt, a little weird, but bear with me.
I'm a queer, transgender, disabled, atheist, academiy-inclined radical leftist (as in not liberal/"left-leaning") artist/art student. I'm interested in meeting a conservative Christian - someone for whom these beliefs, in some form, are an important and animating influence - to meet and simply talk about each other's lives. I checked "in search of women," but any gender is fine so long as we both feel comfortable and safe enough to carry on conversation. Most any variety of conservative Christian is fine, too, as long as you're a sincere believer - SDA, JW, Catholic, Pentecostal/ Charismatic, Southern Baptist, Mormon etc. is all good by me.
I'm not interested in converting you to my viewpoint, and I ask that you adult want real sex MS Iuka 38852 not try to convert me, either . I'd like to meet in a safe, quiet public place and share - discuss each other's lives, ask polite questions. We can learn about each other's daily lives, interests, life history, why we believe what we believe and do what we do, what motivates us to get up in the morning. The "little" stuff is as interesting to me as the big issues.
Why do this? Well, I'm not on some sort of cheesy "understanding" or "bridging the gap" trip, exactly. I don't really think that this encounter will cause us to understand each other's lives. I'm not interested in conflict or debate, either (I have enough of that in my life). I am, however, interested in exposing myself to someone I wouldn't ordinarily spend any time around by choice, and hopefully you are as well. I grew up in a pretty progressive family here in the Bay, and I wasn't exposed very much to conservative Christians on a day-to-day basis. I do think there's something useful for both of us to gain from this, especially if you haven't spent much or any time around people like me either. There might even be a little fun or adventure to be had, within respectful limits.
I'm also, on a more abstract level, interested in how belief and ritual (whether it's artmaking, politics, religion or anything else) fit into, impact, and are impacted by people's lives. It's important to me (and hopefully to you) to try to understand how these Big Things are connected to someone's day-to-day existence.
Basic guidelines for the encounter, subject to your modification/agreement, might be:
-meet in a safe, quiet, public place
-both of us are able to end the encounter at any time
-both of us may state limits and boundaries that are to be respected, and inform the other when a boundary is being crossed or something hurts too much
-ask permission before venturing into sensitive territory (so, realistiy, most territory); be cautious
-we work to maintain a respectful, quiet tone
-we may explain our beliefs to one another, if the other is interested, but this is not about debate, argument or conversion
-use "I" statements ("I believe that ___ is immoral/harmful"), not "you" statements ("your belief in/practice of ____ is immoral/harmful")
-mutual understanding that the other's beliefs and life will be jarring, shocking and difficult to hear for each of us, but some willingness to hear it anyway (that's what this is about)
-try our best to relate to each other as people and not as exotic/alien creatures, insofar as that is possible
No neo-Nazis, fascists/Third Positionists, Klan, Christian Identity etc., please. That's more than I can handle.
