It change slowly. People lead by example. People make informed choices. I think that the system doctors and nurses too. Why on earth does a doctor have to be the sort of person who can work for 48 hours straight and still function? How good care providers were weeded out because they couldn't function without sleep? How nurses or would-have-been nurses quit because they can't function within the system as it is? Imposing new rules on patients and doctors isn't going to make the system better. Instead, there needs to be more support. More doctors per shift, so that the one OB on isn't so fucking tired he's tugging at the cord just so he can go back to bed.
